The Information Commissioner of Canada has called for the reinstatement of the CAIRS database, which provided access to past information requests. She notes rightly notes that the government could – and should – go much further than sites such as CAIRS.Info, which I launched a couple of years ago.
Good idea, but be careful what you wish for. The current fee to making a request is $5 (although this is currently waived), and provides for up to 5 hours of labour to service the request. I can easily see the request fee going up to what the legislation allows, $25, in order to cover the costs of administering the program. Not sure when that fee was set up, but the legislation is dated 1985.
